Galway-based chamber choir Audivi specialises in Renaissance polyphony and contemporary sacred music. Audivi is project-based, and member numbers vary between eight and eighteen, depending on the music being presented. While a cappella repertoire is the group's main focus, Audivi has also collaborated with strings, continuo and organ. The ensemble was founded in 2002 by Dr Darina McCarthy, with the aim of providing opportunities for amateur choristers to perform repertoire outside the choral mainstream.
In addition to an honours BA in English and philosophy and an LLB from the National University of Ireland, Galway, Darina holds a first-class Bachelor of Music in composition and a PhD in historical musicology from Maynooth University. She is an adjunct lecturer in Maynooth University and St Patrick's College Maynooth, where she conducts Schola Gregoriana Maynooth, a group of female voices specialising in plainchant performance.
